Scottish Executive Consultation
The Scottish Executive has recently closed a consultation "Tackling Knife Crime", on proposals to restrict, licence or ban a wide variety of knives, swords and other sharp implements.
Highland Law Practice, in accordance with its aims of active involvement in the community, submitted a detailed response to the consultation document.
In summary, while recognising that knife crime is a serious issue that requires to be addressed by the Executive, we considered that the proposals would be ineffective in preventing crime, while also being costly and causing great inconvenience to both businesses and law-abiding individuals.
We therefore encourage the Executive to look at other options which we consider could be more effective in dealing with such crime.
